14 nations head to Hartpury for Festival of Dressage

Nations including Brazil, Australia, Belgium, Canada and the United States will challenge a strong British contingent at this year’s festival.

A total of 14 nations will be represented at this year’s Hartpury Festival of Dressage, taking place 3-7 July.

The event has once again attracted a strong field of entries across 40 dressage and para-dressage classes. Local riders Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin lead a strong British contingent.

Carl’s book of rides includes the talented 11-year-old Hawtins Delicato, with whom he achieved an individual sixth placing at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon last year. More recently, the combination came second in the CDI3* Grand Prix Special at Bolesworth.

The highlight of Charlotte’s rides will no doubt be the hugely exciting 10-year-old, Mount St John Freestyle. Owned by the Mount St John Stud, the partnership helped the British team secure a bronze medal at the FEI World Equestrian Games in 2018.

Michael Eilberg, Pammy Hutton, Emile Faurie and Isobel Wessels are among a number of familiar faces returning to Hartpury to contest a competitive Premier League fixture.

Hartpury graduates Lucy Pincus and Sarah Rao will also be part of the action, competing in the CDI Big Tour and CDI Small Tour respectively. Graduates and students Stef Eardley, Olivia Oakley, Jess Hickley, and Tesla Whittaker will compete in the Premier League.

The popular gala evening takes place on Saturday 6 July, featuring a demonstration from international dressage rider and former Dressage Personality of the Year, Anna Ross, who made her British team debut in Saumur back in 2007. The demonstration will take place alongside the NAF Superflex CDI3* Grand Prix Final and Elite Stallions Young Horse Prix St. Georges Final.

Entry to the festival on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 July is free for spectators. Entry on Friday 5, Saturday 6 (daytime) and Sunday 7 July costs £6 per person. Tickets for the Saturday Gala Evening cost £17 including admission to the festival for the entire day. A combined ticket is available for Friday – Sunday at a cost of £15. Tickets can be purchased here.

A brand new daily podcast will round up the day’s action and provide another chance to listen to rider interviews and views throughout the competition.

Hartpury University appoints Northern Hive

Hartpury University has appointed Northern Hive to support the marketing and communications activities for their equestrian events this summer. The appointment follows a competitive pitch process earlier in the year and is effective immediately.

The public relations brief covers all three international fixtures at the specialist Gloucestershire educational venue including the Hartpury Festival of Dressage (July 3-7th), Hartpury Showjumping Spectacular (July 18-21st), and NAF Five-Star International Hartpury Horse Trials (August 7-11th).

Northern Hive’s CEO will oversee the strategy as Equine Events Marketing Manager.

The agency will handle all press office activities for the three events, and is tasked with managing Hartpury’s online and offline content channels. Social media activity and strategic communications will also form part of the brief.

Hartpury University and Hartpury College are specialist educational providers, sharing a 360-hectare campus in the heart of Gloucestershire. The institutions have almost 4,000 college and university level students studying postgraduate and undergraduate degrees, A-levels and diplomas in the areas of sport, equine, animal, agriculture and veterinary nursing.

Students at Hartpury have access to the largest equine educational establishment in the world, cutting-edge sports facilities, an extensive animal collection, an animal therapy centre, science laboratories with industry standard equipment and a fully working farm.

Philip Cheetham, Equine Director, said: “This is a very exciting year for our equestrian events, as we invest in their development with new activities for equine professionals, businesses and enthusiasts alike. Alongside showcasing emerging equestrian talent, our events provide unrivalled opportunities for our students to gain real-world experience and make valuable connections for their careers. They also help us to sustain our world-class facilities, which further strengthens their learning.

We’re pleased to welcome Northern Hive as our new PR partner and look forward to hosting our best events yet this year.”

Mark Hayward, CEO of Northern Hive said “I have been involved with Hartpury for a number of years as a commentator at their equestrian events, so am extremely excited to now be working with them in this capacity. The commitment and investment made by Hartpury during recent years is outstanding and the facilities are world class. There are tremendous opportunities for growth and development within their equestrian events offering, and we look forward to playing our part during this exciting phase.”
